Thomas Edison Bust SculptureThis 8' tall Thomas Edison bust was created for Chico's, a women's apparel and accessories company, in Fort Meyers, Florida. Fort Meyers was the winter home of Thomas Edison, and the bust was designed to go on their float for the annual 2006 "Edison Festival of Lights Parade".

Because of time constraints we hired artist Robert Toth, who had already sculpted a wonderful small sized bust of Edison. We used his bust as the maquette for this project.
We scanned the maquette using our 3D laser scanner, and then digitally enlarged it on our CNC router.
We also sculpted a small version of the arm and scanned and milled this out as well. After enlargement a mold was made of the light bulb and this was cast in fiberglass.
The sculpture was then finished out, over a metal armature, and coated with our Polyurea hard-coat. We then painted the bust and arm to look like bronze.
These photos depict Robert Toth's small maquette, a large unfinished piece of the milled out EPS, one of our employees, Ryan, holding Mr. Toth's maquette, and another view of the final statue. |
